Our club founder, Teddy McNeill, has won a contest at Gamustra about how to make Monopoly exciting! Here's the link: http://www.gamecareerguide.com/features/621/results_from_game_design_challenge_make_monopoly_fun.php.

Congratulations Teddy!

Wow, congrats Teddy.
Those are some pretty solid rules too, and I can def. see how that would become more fun, although I think that the optional move forward has the potential to be a slight problem, as so many places can be avoided.

Nick:
Do you think your learning agents could play this version of monopoly?  Is the strategy fundamentally different, or the same?

My learning agent could easily incorporate the first rule (decreasing value from passing go each round), and likely still be able to incorporate the 2nd rule (whether or not to add 1 to a roll). I *could* implement the third rule, but that would be much less effective than with humans, as computers do not hold grudges like people do, and any implementation I do would be fairly simplistic.

Thanks guys!

And just to throw modesty out the window, I also won the previous week's challenge. And I got my most recent game on reddit.com. That was a good week!

I encourage you guys to do the weekly challenge if you're interested in design (and not just programming or art). They're quite fun and challenging.

I see Superior already has an account on Game Career Guide. I also notice that its color scheme is also blue and orange...

Do we need an account to do the weekly challenge? They sound really fun. Once our officers finally make this an 8th period club again we should consider doing little projects like this.

You need an account to post on the forum. I don't think you need an account to submit an idea, but I would check that.

No, you just need to send it to their email that they have set up for the contests.  I don't remember it right now though... Sad

Teddy won again! I must ask, though, how long have you been doing them? I'm curious if you're just naturally talented at winning these contests, or if you've been doing them for a while and have gotten the hang of it. How many times HAVE you won it? I've counted 3 so far.

I just do it every week. I think it over from Wednesday-Monday and then submit something on Tuesday.

It's just those three so far, and I've been competing since the Fantasy RPG Quest one. I can tell when my submissions aren't very good (e.g. my Lemming sucked), but I can't always tell when I got it right (e.g. I loved my guitar submissions, and I was ambivalent about my Fantasy Game Development one).

Let me know if you guys start submitting!
